The name "Slaughterhouse Beach" comes from a slaughterhouse that was located on the cliff edge above the ocean. The building is now town down but the name stuck. The beach has big waves that are great for more experienced surfers. In summer months the waves are much smaller. The beach is known as being a clothing optional beach though stricter enforced laws against nude bathing has lessened its popularity in recent years.
